Luka Lara Steffen pursued her studies in screenwriting and directing at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne between 2014 and 2022. She is an accomplished editor, director, and writer, having created multiple short films as well as a full-length documentary that premiered at the Film Festival Max Ophüls Preis in 2020. In 2022, she received the “Shoot” prize at the International Women’s Film Festival Dortmund/Cologne, alongside recognition from the Academy of Media Arts Cologne. Her graduation film, „PIECHT,“ received funding from the Federal Government Commissioners for Culture and the Media and had its world premiere at the Film Festival Max Ophüls Preis in 2023. „PIECHT“ has been featured in several prestigious film festivals around the globe, including KASHISH Pride Film Festival, Female Eye Film Festival, Cleveland International Film Festival, FEST – New Directors/New Films Festival, and GAZE International LGBTQIA Film Festival. Currently, Luka is developing her feature film „MALEFICIUM,“ with its script funded by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW.
